King’s Day didn’t leave a positive result for the valencian supporters yesterday night in Mestalla. The black ‘n white team played a good game against Deportivo but didn’t have enough definition to win a match that was lost due to two isolated combinations where the visitors did have the necessary clarity.
David Villa was in the starting eleven since the beginning of the match and was accompanied by the Serbian Nikola Zigic as his attacking mate. After a few minutes of obvious dominion and chances of the valencian team, Deportivo began to feel comfortable and applied their own tempo to the game.
The first half ended with no goals. However, ten minutes were enough in the second half to put the match in a very difficult situation for Emery’s players. Guardado in the 47th minute and Pablo Álvarez in the 55th minute were the scorers on the visitor’s side. David Silva, who entered the game in the second half after recovering from his surgery and he would score the definitive 1-2, the goal for hope in the return match.
Valencia CF will have to win in Riazor next week with two goals difference to continue in the Cup Competition and then face the winner of the eliminatory between Seville and Barcelona, that ended in the exact same result as Valencia’s game.
