David Villa hadn’t played for more than 65 minutes in the first game before scoring his first goal in the BBVA league with Barça’s shirt. The asturian forward had already scored in the pre-season, but in his first opportunity he met with Messi and Iniesta as goalscorers in the victorious debut of their team against Racing of Santander in the Sardinero.
The player from Tuilla began the season as one of the 11 chosen players on the pitch and he did it as center forward, the same as he does with the national team, with movement freedom towards the center of the area.
From that position, totally integrated in Josep Guardiola’s system, almost scored in the first half, but he saw how his first goal was invalidated due to a doubtful position.
Despite that, 17 minutes later the Guaje took advantage of a pass by Dani Alves from the right wing, moving aside from the two defenders that were trying to cover him and scoring with an excellent header his first goal as Barcelona’s striker.
With Barça as a virtual leader of the championship and with his first goal in his pocket, David will meet with is fellow teammates of the National Team, recent World Champion, before returning to his new club to face a month, September, where they will return to the league games and the first matches of the Group Round of the Champions League.
